VINCI Wins Major Contract in Spain for Biofuel Plant

Grupo Cobra and Masa, both subsidiaries of Cobra IS, have been awarded the electrical, piping, and industrial mechanical works for Spain’s largest second-generation (2G) biofuel plant, to be constructed in Palos de la Frontera, Huelva.

Key Highlights:

  • Project Location: Palos de la Frontera, Huelva Province, Spain
  • Client: Moeve and Apical
  • Contractors: Grupo Cobra & Masa (Subsidiaries of Cobra IS)
  • Estimated Project Cost: €1.2 Billion
  • Annual Production Capacity: 500,000 Tonnes of Sustainable Fuels
  • Fuel Types: SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) and HVO100 (Renewable Diesel)
  • Raw Materials: Agricultural Waste and Used Cooking Oil
  • Environmental Design: 100% Recycled Water Use and 75% Lower CO₂ Emissions
  • Emission Reduction Impact: Avoids Nearly 3 Million Tonnes of CO₂ Annually
  • Technology Edge: Cutting-edge Processing & Environmental Sustainability
  • Strategic Synergy: Located Adjacent to Moeve’s La Rábida Energy Park
  • Parent Group Revenue (2024, Spain): €3.8 Billion (Cobra IS: €3.2 Billion)

The €1.2 billion facility is strategically located beside Moeve’s La Rábida Energy Park, allowing for enhanced operational synergies. Once operational, the plant will produce 500,000 tonnes of sustainable fuels annually, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (HVO100).
