The official signing ceremony for the Tengiz Gas Separation Complex (GSC) project was held today at KMG PetroChem’s headquarters in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan.
Senior executives from KMG PetroChem, MAIRE’s subsidiary TECNIMONT, and its consortium partner, along with Kazakh government officials, were present at the event.
Key Highlights:
- Project: Tengiz Gas Separation Complex (GSC)
- Location: Atyrau Region, Kazakhstan
- Client: KMG PetroChem (a subsidiary of KazMunayGas)
- Contractor: TECNIMONT (subsidiary of MAIRE, leading the consortium)
- Scope: Engineering, Procurement, Construction & Commissioning
- Completion Timeline: By Q1 2029
- Downstream Link: Will supply gas to the Silleno petrochemical complex (Polyethylene Phase 2)
- Technology: Designed to recover at least 98% ethane from dry gas
- Strategic Value: Boosts Kazakhstan’s industrial and petrochemical capabilities
The GSC project includes full-scope engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning works, with TECNIMONT mainly responsible for engineering, procurement, and commissioning.
The facility is designed to recover at least 98% of ethane from dry gas, and its output will feed the second phase of the Silleno petrochemical complex, focused on polyethylene production—another major project being executed by TECNIMONT.
This project marks a significant milestone for Kazakhstan, as it involves technologies and scale never before implemented in the country. Both the GSC and Silleno complex are seen as pioneering efforts that will strengthen the national petrochemical sector.

The Tengiz Gas Separation Complex represents a strategic milestone for us, reinforcing our long-term commitment to Kazakhstan and Central Asia. This project not only showcases our capabilities but also supports Kazakhstan’s industrial growth with next-generation infrastructure.
Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE
The initiative further expands MAIRE’s presence in Central Asia, where TECNIMONT is already actively involved in large-scale energy and petrochemical projects.
