Simtel (BVB: SMTL), one of Romania’s leading renewable energy engineering and technology groups, has signed an EPC contract worth 168.9 million lei with Energy Capital Group, a company owned by MOGAN Bucharest SRL of the Turkish GÜRİŞ Group. The contract is for the construction of a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Caras-Severin County.

The facility, to be developed in Iaz village, will feature a storage capacity of up to 196.4 MWh and installed capacity of 98.6 MW. Once completed, it will become one of Romania’s largest energy storage systems, significantly expanding the country’s total capacity, which currently stands at 398.8 MWh, according to Transelectrica.
Simtel will handle the complete engineering, procurement, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of the project. The company has committed to delivering the project within a 9-month timeframe.

This investment aligns with Romania’s energy strategy and the green transition goals under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). The project received over 50 million lei in public funding, enhancing its potential impact on the national grid’s flexibility and reliability.

Mihai Tudor, CEO of Simtel, emphasized the strategic value of this project in strengthening Romania’s power infrastructure and enhancing grid stability through advanced energy storage technologies. Simtel entered the BESS sector in 2024, aiming to support smart energy management, grid balancing, and voltage-frequency regulation.
This contract reinforces Simtel’s position as a key player in Romania’s clean energy market and highlights the country’s growing emphasis on renewable integration and energy resilience.
