The project involves building a 250 MW, four-hour battery system, which will connect to the National Electricity Market (NEM) through ElectraNet’s 275 kV transmission network. This is a key part of Alinta Energy’s Reeves Plains Energy Hub, aimed at boosting energy security and grid stability in South Australia.

The Energy Hub features two main components: the utility-scale BESS and a proposed gas-fired power station. The battery system, to be delivered in two stages, will store excess renewable energy and release it during peak demand, with the ability to power approximately 300,000 households. The gas plant will provide up to 300 MW of fast-start electricity to support system reliability.

The BESS will include around 194 battery modules, 87 inverters, a substation, water storage, control room, and other supporting infrastructure.

GenusPlus’ scope of work includes:

  • Complete engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the BESS
  • Supply of battery modules, inverters, and equipment
  • Civil works, site preparation, and foundations
  • Mechanical and electrical system installation
  • Construction of a 275 kV switchyard and grid connection
  • Integration with ElectraNet’s high-voltage network
  • Testing, commissioning, and performance checks

Construction will create jobs for around 100 people, with a strong focus on local workforce and procurement.

“This project is a major step in our growth within the renewable sector. It highlights our strong client relationships and proven record of delivering complex energy projects safely and efficiently. We are proud to partner with Alinta Energy and help build infrastructure that supports Australia’s energy transition.”
