Saipem has been awarded a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) contract by Sonatrach for Algeria’s first large-scale integrated project for phosphate mining and fertilizer production.

The contract is part of a competitive dual FEED process, where Saipem and another operator will each develop detailed design plans. Based on the best technical and economic proposal, Sonatrach will directly award the EPC contract to one of the companies for full project execution.
Project Details Include:
- Design of phosphate mining facilities in the Bled El Hadba area
- Fertilizer production and processing units in the Oued Keberit area
- Upgrading Annaba Port for export operations
- Construction of railway connections to link extraction and production sites to the national rail network
Once completed, the project will enable the extraction of 10 million tons of phosphate and the production of 6 million tons of fertilizers annually. This project is expected to support Algeria’s economic diversification and enhance its global position in the fertilizer market.
