Larsen & Toubro’s Minerals & Metals (M&M) business vertical has secured a large EPC contract from Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), a key entity under the Vedanta Group. The order is part of HZL’s strategic expansion plans and aims to significantly enhance the zinc production capacity at its Debari Smelter Complex in Rajasthan.

Under the contract, L&T will execute the engineering, procurement, and construction of a 250 KTPA Leaching, Purification & Cellhouse facility, in addition to a 125 KTPA Jarosite Circuit. Once complete, the new plant will produce Special High Grade Zinc Cathodes with 99.995% purity.
The scope of work includes:
- Design and engineering
- Procurement of critical equipment
- Complete site execution including installation & commissioning
- Construction of:
- Calcine Storage
- Leaching, Purification & Electrowinning (Jumbo Cell House) plant
- Integration of utilities, ETP, RO-ZLD, electrics, instrumentation, and automation systems
This win marks a significant milestone in the three-decade-long partnership between L&T and HZL, showcasing L&T’s deep-rooted involvement in beneficiation plants and smelter facility development.
