Located 180 km off the Mexican coastline in the Gulf of Mexico, the Trion project lies in water depths of around 2,500 meters and marks a major step forward in the country’s offshore energy sector. It is being developed as a joint venture between Woodside Energy and PEMEX, with the first oil targeted by 2028.
Under this new agreement, Expro will deliver key well construction services, including tubular running services (TRS), cementing, casing accessories, cement heads, and its proprietary Skyhook® system. These solutions aim to optimize well performance, reduce costs, and ensure smooth drilling operations.
Woodside will manage the operations from its Tampico shore base, while Expro is establishing a new hub in the region, helping boost local employment and economic growth.
This deal builds on Expro’s existing relationship with Woodside, as the company previously supported Trion’s exploration phase with technologies like Frank’s TRS and VERSAFLO™ systems.
“This contract win reflects not only the strength of our technical capabilities and commercial offering but also our legacy of supporting Trion exploration wells,” said Jeremy Angelle, Vice President of Well Construction at Expro.
The Trion project highlights Expro’s expanding role in Mexico’s energy future and positions the company as a key player in delivering advanced well construction solutions for large-scale offshore developments.
