IMI Awarded Electrolyzer Supply Contract for Vilnius Green Hydrogen Facility by MT Group

MT Group, a leading EPC contractor in green energy infrastructure, has officially awarded a supply contract to IMI for the delivery of a 3MW PEM electrolyzer for the Vilnius Green Hydrogen Production Facility.

IMI, known for its advanced electrolyzer systems, will deliver the unit by the fourth quarter of 2025, with project commissioning expected in 2026.

Key Highlights of IMI – MT Group Contract:

  • Contract Awarded To: IMI (manufacturer of electrolyzer systems)
  • Awarded By: MT Group (EPC contractor for the project)
  • Electrolyzer Type & Capacity: 3MW PEM electrolyzer
  • Project Location: Vilnius, Lithuania
  • Project Developer: Vilnius District Heating Company in partnership with Vilnius City Municipality
  • Objective: Decarbonize district heating using locally produced green hydrogen
  • Commissioning Timeline: Delivery in Q4 2025, commissioning in 2026
  • Program: Supported under the EU-backed Green Hydrogen Program
  • Previous Partnership: MT Group & IMI collaborated earlier for the Klaipėda hydrogen project

The facility, currently under development in Vilnius, aims to decarbonize the city’s district heating system by producing green hydrogen locally. The initiative is being driven by Vilnius District Heating Company (VŠT) in collaboration with the Vilnius City Municipality and forms a critical part of Lithuania’s national climate strategy.

The contract extends an ongoing collaboration between MT Group and IMI, following their partnership on the Klaipėda hydrogen project — a flagship green hydrogen facility on Lithuania’s Baltic coast.

Giuseppe Buscemi, President EMEA for Process Automation at IMI, commented:

“Lithuania is setting an example for the region in advancing clean energy, and we are proud to support this green hydrogen leadership.”

Mindaugas Zakaras, CEO of MT Group, added:

“This award represents another milestone in the energy transition for Vilnius. By choosing a trusted partner like IMI, we ensure delivery of world-class PEM technology to support Lithuania’s net-zero ambitions.”

Gerimantas Bakanas, CEO of VŠT, emphasized the technological and environmental importance:

“IMI is one of the leading players in green hydrogen technology. Their solutions are used globally in advanced electrolysis projects, and this partnership will help raise the sustainability standard in Vilnius.”

The project is part of the EU-supported Green Hydrogen Program, reinforcing Lithuania’s commitment to CO₂ reduction in the heating sector through integration of renewables and hydrogen technologies.
