ITD Cementation India has become as the lowest bidder for the underground section of Kolkata Metro Line-4’s extension from Biman Bandar (Kolkata Airport) to Birati, part of the Yellow Line’s larger 11.26 km extension to Barasat in northeast Kolkata.

The ₹1,097.23 crore bid by ITD Cementation is 17.55% lower than the estimated project cost of ₹1,330.47 crore set by Metro Railway Kolkata.
Project Scope Includes:
- Construction of 3.59 km metro tunnel using the RCC box pushing method (TBMs will not be used)
- Development of Birati underground station using cut & cover method
- Subway works at Birati and Michael Nagar stations
- Complete system works within the 3.59 km tunnel, including tracks, E&M, tunnel ventilation, and installation of a 750V DC Third Rail

Metro Railway Kolkata had invited bids for this project in August 2024 with a 910-day timeline for completion. Once approvals are secured, the contract is expected to be officially awarded in the coming months.
This contract was re-tendered, following earlier bids in 2022 when Senbo Engineering was declared the lowest bidder for similar underground civil works.
With this project, ITD Cementation strengthens its presence in India’s growing metro construction sector, contributing to the critical expansion of public transport infrastructure in Kolkata.
