How Many Nos of bricks used in 1m3 || Brickwork calculation

In this article we explain Brickwork Calculation.  How many nos of bricks, cement bags and sands are required for 1m3 Brick Masonry. How many quantity of mortar required for 1m3 brick work, etc.  It is very common question which is mostly ask in interview and other competitive exam.

As well as the nos of bricks, cement bags  for various quantity is a very general knowledge in civil engineering  field.  Finding quantity of bricks, sand, and cement for different works is very easy.

Brickwork Calculation for 1m3:

Suppose we construct the wall having a volume of the 1m3, the size of brick is 190 mm ×90 mm ×90 mm and the mortar is 10 mm thick with the ratio of 1 : 6.  So

Steps

  • How many nos of brick used in 1m3 without mortar
  • How many nos of brick used in 1m3 with mortar
  • Quantity of mortar for 1m3 volume
  • Quantity of cement and sand
  • Quantity of cement and sand in KG

Calculation data:

  • Size of brick without mortar = 19cm X 9cm X 9cm
  • Size of brick with mortar = 20cm X 10cm X 10cm
  • Cement to Sand proportion =  1 : 6
  • Mortar thickness = 10mm
  • Volume of brick wall = 1m3

How many nos of brick used in 1m3 without mortar (steps-1):

Size of brick without mortar = 19cm X 9cm X 9cm

Converting size centimetre to meter. Use google conversion tool for converting dimension

Size of brick is = 0.19m X 0.09m X 0.09

Volume of 1 brick without mortar = 0.001539m3

Volume of brick wall = 1m3

Nos of bricks used in 1m3

= volume of brick wall /volume of 1 brick without mortar

= 1/0.001539

= 649.77

= 650 Nos of brick used in 1m3 volume without mortar

How many nos of brick used in 1m3 with mortar (steps-2):

Size of brick with mortar = 20cm X 10cm X 10cm

Converting size centimetre to meter. Use Google conversion tool for converting dimension

Size of brick in meter = 0.2m X 0.1m X 0.1m

Volume of 1 brick with mortar = 0.002m3

Volume of brick wall = 1m3

Nos of bricks used in 1m3

= volume of brick wall /volume of 1 brick with mortar

= 1/0.002

= 500

= 500 Nos of brick used in 1m3 volume with mortar

Quantity of mortar for 1m3 volume (step-3)

The volume of brick used in 1m3 with mortar

 = 500 X 0.19 X 0.09 X 0.09

=0.77m3

Therefore,

Volume of mortar in wet condition used in 1m3 brick masonry

= volume of wall – volume of brick with mortar

= 1-0.77

= 0.23m3

Increase 15% volume of wet mortar for wastage and filling in frogs.

Total Volume of wet mortar

= (0.15 X 0.23) + 0.23

= 0.264m3

Due to pouring water in dry mortar, reduces its 25% volume

Volume of dry mortar

= 0.264 + (0.25 X 0.264)

=0.33m3

Therefore, 0.33m3 volume of dry mortar required for 1m3 brick masonry.

Quantity of cement and sand (step-4)

Volume of brick masonry

=1m3

 Cement to sand proportion = 1 : 6

Therefore,

Volume of dry Mortar

= 0.33m3

Volume of 1bags cement = 0.035m3 (where weight of 1bags = 50kg)

Sum of proportion of cement to sand

= 1+6

=7

Nos of cement bag

=((total volume of cement )/(volume of 1bag of cement)

= ((1/7) X 0.33) / 0.035)

= 1.347 bags which is similar to 2bags

Quantity of sands

= (6/7) X 0.33

= 0.283m3

Quantity of cement and sand in KG (step-5)

Weight of cement

= density of cement X total volume of cement

=1440 X ((1/7) X 0.33)

=67.88KG

Weight of sand

= density of sand X total volume of sand

=1600 X 0.283

=452.8KG
