ANDRITZ Secures Major Contract to Rehabilitate Mozambique’s largest Hydropower Plant

Commissioned in 1975, the 2,075 MW facility located on the Zambezi River is a critical energy backbone for Mozambique, supplying over half of the country’s electricity and exporting to neighboring nations. This rehabilitation project, known as REABSUL II, is aimed at improving the efficiency, reliability, availability, and maintainability of the plant for the long term.

Scope of ANDRITZ’s Contract:

  • Five new 480 MVA generators
  • Five new high-efficiency Francis turbine runners
  • Advanced control and protection systems
  • Hydromechanical structures
  • Design, engineering, manufacturing, and supply
  • Installation, testing, and commissioning at site

Project Timeline & Execution Strategy:

  • Three-year preparation phase for design, manufacturing, and site readiness.
  • Gradual replacement of generating units one-by-one, ensuring uninterrupted operation of remaining units.
  • Parallel coordination with Songo Converter Substation rehabilitation.
